Luis Diaz Liverpool return date confirmed after knee injury
เวลา:2022-11-24 12:46

The Colombian winger limped out of the 3-2 defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday

Luis Diaz has been ruled out until after the World Cup - but the Liverpool winger will not require surgery on his knee injury.

Diaz is expected to be sidelined for between six to eight weeks after limping off before half-time in Sundays 3-2 Premier League defeat at leaders Arsenal.

The Colombian was initially hurt when challenged by Gunners midfielder Thomas Partey and, having undergone lengthy treatment on the field, attempted to carry on before hobbling out of the game a few minutes later.

The 25-year-old left the Emirates wearing a knee brace and underwent scans on Monday that have ascertained the extent of the damage but confirmed no need for an operation.

And Diaz will now miss Liverpools next 10 games - which consists of six Premier League matches, three Champions League group fixtures and a League Cup third round tie against Derby County - before the season pauses for the World Cup in the middle of next month.

The forward will now aim to be available for when Liverpools Premier League season resumes at Aston Villa on Boxing Day, although there is a possible League Cup tie earlier in the week.

Diaz has been one of the Reds better performers during a difficult start to the campaign, scoring four goals in 12 appearances and providing three assists, the most recent for Darwin Nunez at the weekend.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is awaiting further news on the fitness of Trent Alexander-Arnold after the defender was substituted at half-time on Sunday having suffered a swollen ankle when trod on by Arsenal forward Gabriel Martinelli.

Klopp has had to grapple with a host of injury problems during the opening few months of the season, with on-loan signing Arthur Melo out until the New Year after a thigh operation.

And while Curtis Jones and Andy Robertson are close to a return to action, both Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are running out of time to be in contention before the World Cup break.

It took the former Uruguay and Valencia midfielder just a glance at a half-fit variation of the forward before he forced himself to uncharacteristically intervene.
