The clamour to always sign players is persistent at every club up and down the football pyramid.

But this is especially so for the biggest sides in the game. We have seen this in the evolution of social media over the last decade. Nothing drives traffic like transfer gossip, half-confirmed or officially done deals.

People have made careers around doing little else than reporting which team is interested in buying a certain player.

Fans need a shiny new toy to play with, until they inevitably get bored of it and demand a new one.

Signing young players at youth level and promoting them into the first team squad requires patience and hard work, and isnt considered sexy by the transfer-thirsty contingent of every clubs fan base.

And in this regard, Liverpool are no different.

A certain portion of the clubs fans were incensed when Ibrahima Konat was the only summer signing. But then this swung around when the club signed Luis Daz from Porto in the January transfer window.

Jude Bellingham has been linked on and off with a move to Anfield, but while theBorussia Dortmundmidfielder is clearly one of the most promising talents in the world game at 18, do Liverpool really need to break the bank, with a figure of around 100m quoted by most accounts, to sign him whenHarvey Elliottis already at the club?

On the latest episode of theAnalysing Anfieldpodcast, Josh Williams and David Hughes broke down why the club should put their trust in Elliott and not rush to sign Bellingham at all costs.

I am honestly very, very excited about him, said Williams.

Think about what he could be in seven years. I mean, how old is he now? 18? So in seven years time, he will be 25, and I think he could be incredible, a real, really top player.

I mean, the thing is theres a big obsession from the Liverpool fanbase on players likeBellingham, replied Hughes.

And we are talking about two different players. But if you are getting excited about the potential signing of him and wanting Liverpool to splash 80-100m or whatever, then you got to be equally as excited by Elliott, who is already at the club.

In terms of ceilings and how far they both can go, they are on a par from what weve seen, for me.

Although Elliott has played far less in terms of senior football, and a lot less Champions League, but just from what weve seen,Elliottis a top player, and looks like he will be a truly elite player.

He looks like he could go on to be a top Liverpool player.

With Liverpool and Jrgen Klopp likely to upgrade the midfield in the summer after a difficult season in which almost every midfielder at some stage or another was on the treatment table with an injury, Bellingham could well be joiningElliottat the club regardless.

But if he doesnt, Liverpool fans shouldnt be disappointed because in Elliott, the club have a talent who could reach the highest levels of the sport, and has the potential to be a mainstay in theLiverpoolmidfield for years to come.
