Despite not producing one of their best performances of the season in the 1-0 win against Burnley, it was another three points in the bag for Jrgen Klopps men.

With two-thirds of the season gone,Liverpoolare comfortably second in the table behind Man City, but some seven points ahead of third-placed Chelsea.

The Reds are nine points behind Manchester City, but have a game in hand. Win that and the title race, which looked dead and buried at one point, could be back on.

Considering the unrelenting pace Pep Guardiolas men are cutting, the chances of them losing two matches between now and the end of the season are slim. But that notwithstanding, Klopp can be happy with how Liverpool have performed over the course of the season.

All the more so considering that before a ball had been kicked this season, most pundits had predicted thatLiverpoolwouldnt do much across the campaign.

Many predicted, in fact, that Liverpool would be at best a distant third behind City andChelsea, who had strengthened significantly in the summer transfer window.

Liverpool had only signed just the one player in Ibrahima Konat and there was almost a universal dismissal of Liverpool achieving anything higher than third.

Some even had Liverpool finishingfourthbehind Manchester United. One former Everton player had them outside of the top-four.

Those predictions all look rather foolish now. And even though Liverpool could experience a dip in form and drop points, this is unlikely given how the season has played out.

Many feared for Liverpool during January when everyone knew Mohamed Salah, Sadio Man and Naby Keïta would all be absent due to AFCON. Yet in that month,Liverpoolwon every game. Moreover, they only conceded one league goal.

The big panic over how Klopps side would cope without Salah and Man never materialised, and Liverpool kept on winning.

The end result is that Liverpool have played the same number of games as Chelsea, but are seven points clear. This is the sameChelseawho paid Inter 100m to bring Romelu Lukaku back to London in order to have a proper title crack.

The same Chelsea who are the reigning European, and now world, champions.

With only City away and Man United at home Liverpools only remaining difficult fixtures left, theres no reason why the club cant continue to keep Chelsea at arms length and secure second place in the table, all the while hoping that City themselves slip up once or twice in the meantime.

With 14 games of the season left remaining,Liverpoolhave already proved the naysayers wrong; those who believed the club wouldnt be up to much this season have been emphatically shot down.

Its a credit toKloppand his players that theyve done so already, and with the club very much in the running for trophies in regards to the EFL Cup, FA Cup and the Champions League, theres ample time to really prove the critics wrong come seasons end.

This season, if prior evidence wasnt already enough, is a testament to just how brilliant of a manager Klopp is, and of how good a team Liverpool are.
